Alphabet Inc. (GOOGL) — Company Overview

Alphabet Inc. (NASDAQ: GOOGL) is the parent company of Google, the world’s dominant search engine, YouTube, Google Cloud, and a portfolio of other businesses. Headquartered in Mountain View, California and led by CEO Sundar Pichai, Alphabet is the world’s fourth-largest company by market capitalization at approximately $2.5 trillion. Its Q1 2026 results marked its highest revenue growth rate since 2022, at 22% year-over-year, driven by accelerating AI integration across Search, YouTube, and Google Cloud. Alphabet entered Q1 2026 earnings with zero analyst sell ratings — the strongest institutional consensus of any mega-cap technology company.

Q1 2026 Earnings: Cloud Surge, Search Strength

Alphabet reported Q1 2026 results on April 29, 2026. Revenue of $109.9 billion beat the $107.2 billion consensus, up 22% year-over-year — the highest growth rate since 2022. Adjusted EPS of $2.62 was in line with the $2.63 estimate. Google Cloud was the headline: revenue reached $20.03 billion, up 63% year-over-year and far above the $18.05 billion estimate. Cloud operating margin expanded sharply to 32.9%. The cloud backlog nearly doubled sequentially to $460 billion. CEO Sundar Pichai said Alphabet is still compute-constrained — cloud revenue would have been higher with more capacity. Google Services generated $89.6 billion (+16%), with Search at $60.4 billion (+19%) and YouTube ads at $9.9 billion (+11%). Full-year 2026 capex guidance was raised to $180–$190 billion, with management indicating 2027 capex will increase again significantly.

The AI Story: Gemini, TPUs, and the Anthropic Deal

Alphabet’s AI strategy is multidimensional. Gemini, its large language model family, is now processing over 16 billion tokens per minute — a 60% increase from the prior quarter. Gemini Enterprise paid monthly active users grew 40% quarter-over-quarter. Alphabet is also developing its own AI chips: the TPU 8t and TPU 8i were announced at Google Cloud Next 2026, giving it a potential long-term cost advantage over NVIDIA-dependent competitors. In a landmark deal, Alphabet, Anthropic, and Broadcom agreed to provide Anthropic with multiple gigawatts of TPU capacity — a potential $200 billion Google Cloud commitment that would be the largest single cloud contract in history. Wiz, the cybersecurity company acquired for $32 billion, is now fully integrated and expanding Google Cloud’s security footprint across enterprise customers.
