IBM — Overview
IBM (NYSE: IBM) has transformed from a hardware company into a hybrid cloud and AI software company under CEO Arvind Krishna. Q1 2026 revenue of $15.9 billion grew 9.5% year-over-year, beating consensus. Non-GAAP EPS of $1.91 beat the $1.81 estimate by 5.5%, continuing IBM’s streak of four consecutive quarterly EPS beats. Software — now IBM’s largest and fastest-growing segment — grew 11% led by Red Hat (+13%), Data (+19%), and Automation (+10%). The IBM Z mainframe surged 51% year-over-year as clients upgrade to the z17 cycle to run AI workloads on-premise. CEO Arvind Krishna stated AI is a tailwind across the business, with clients using IBM products to orchestrate, deploy, and govern AI in hybrid environments. Consulting growth of just 1% at constant currency is the one soft spot the market is watching closely heading into Q2 2026 earnings on July 22.
