Microsoft Corporation (MSFT) — Company Overview

Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ: MSFT) is the world’s second-largest company by market capitalization, headquartered in Redmond, Washington. Under CEO Satya Nadella, Microsoft has transformed from a software licensing company into the world’s leading enterprise cloud platform. Azure is growing at 40% year-over-year and Microsoft holds approximately a 49% stake in OpenAI, giving it the most comprehensive enterprise AI product suite of any technology company. Copilot — Microsoft’s AI assistant embedded across Office 365, Teams, GitHub, and Dynamics — now has over 20 million commercial seats.

Q3 FY2026 Earnings

Microsoft reported Q3 FY2026 results on April 29, 2026. Revenue of $82.9 billion beat the $81.5 billion consensus. EPS of $4.27 beat the $4.07 estimate. Azure grew 40% year-over-year in constant currency. Microsoft Cloud revenue hit $54.5 billion (+29%). The commercial remaining performance obligation surged 99% to $627 billion. AI annual revenue run rate hit $37 billion, up 123% year-over-year. Capacity remains constrained — revenue would have been higher with more supply available.

The Azure and OpenAI Advantage

Azure is the exclusive cloud platform for OpenAI’s workloads — every ChatGPT user and enterprise OpenAI deployment runs on Azure infrastructure. This gives Microsoft a structural demand advantage no other cloud provider can replicate. At $30 per seat per month for Copilot M365, even modest adoption across Microsoft’s 400 million Office users represents enormous incremental revenue. Nadella stated the AI business surpassed a $37 billion annual revenue run rate — up 123% year-over-year — making it the fastest-growing AI business among mega-cap tech companies.
